How to Create a Start Up Windows Me Disk
While boot disk downloads are available on many websites, you can make your own and avoid the risk of ending up with a buggy start up or boot disk. A Windows 98 boot disk will start a Windows Millennium Edition (Me) computer, but you should use a Windows Me boot disk for best results when troubleshooting Windows Me operating system (OS) issues. The method to create a start up or boot disk is different in Windows Me since the start up disk creation program, which was used in Windows 98, is not available in Windows Me.
Instructions
- Boot your Windows Me computer. Click the "Start" button in the lower-left corner of the screen.
- Select "Settings" and "Control Panel" from the menu.
- Double-click "Add/Remove Programs." Select the "Startup Disk" tab from the "Add/Remove Properties" window.
- Click the "Create Disk" button. Insert the Windows Me software CD if you are prompted
- Insert a formatted disk in the floppy disk drive. Click "OK" to overwrite the disk.
